Define Elastic Block Store (EBS)?

Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) is a scalable block storage service provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS). It provides block-level storage volumes that can be attached to Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instances, allowing users to persist data beyond the lifetime of the instance.

EBS volumes are highly available and durable, and they can be dynamically provisioned and resized as needed. EBS supports multiple volume types, each with different performance characteristics, such as magnetic, general purpose, and provisioned IOPS. EBS volumes can also be encrypted for additional data security.

In addition to providing persistent storage for EC2 instances, EBS can be used for a variety of other applications, such as database storage, backup and restore, and disaster recovery. Overall, EBS provides a flexible and reliable storage solution for cloud applications.
